Lt. Darren Simmons came to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office after serving 8 years with the United States Marine Corps. Preparing for a challenging career in law enforcement, Simmons worked as a Reserve Deputy and achieved his Peace Officer Status during the last two years in the corps.
Joining the Sheriff’s Office full time in 1990, Simmons served his first 14 years as a Deputy Sheriff stationed in the Wellton area--testing and promoting through the ranks of Senior Deputy, Sergeant and Watch Commander. Simmons was assigned as one of two Search and Rescue Coordinators for the County in 1994, a position he continues to hold today. Simmons, responsible for the supervision of the County's Water Safety Division, manages the funds to support the Boat Patrol and is responsible for upkeep and procurement of new equipment.
In April of 2004, Simmons was promoted to his current rank of Lieutenant and assumed the command and supervision of the West County area.
Lt. Simmons is married with two grown children, a granddaughter and two grandsons.
