On 11-25-2013 at 2043 hours, the Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to an attempted armed robbery that had just occurred in the 700 block of South Vaughn Avenue.
Responding Deputies met with two adult female victims who reported they had been walking on Vaughn Avenue when they were approached by a male suspect who demanded they give him all of their money. The victims reported the suspect held his hand in his pocket indicating that he had a weapon. The victims told the suspect they had no money, he then threatened to kill them if they didn’t give him all of their money.
The victims ran from the suspect who then returned to a trailer on the property of 701 S. Vaughn Avenue. The victims were able to provide an accurate description and last known location of the suspect to the Deputies who recognized the suspect based on the description and previous contacts.
Deputies went to the trailer located on the property at 701 Vaughn Avenue to make contact with the suspect who subsequently refused to exit his trailer. A search warrant was drafted and served on the trailer resulting in the arrest of Gene Anaya, 49, of Yuma. A search of the residence and surrounding area did not reveal any weapons. Gene Anaya was ultimately booked into the Yuma County Jail on charges of attempted armed robbery and threats.
There were no injuries sustained by the victims as a result of this incident.
