Fatal Collision - Follow Up
Location of Incident: South Scottsdale Avenue and East 34th Place, Yuma, AZ
On October 23, 2009 at approximately 0105 hours, a single vehicle with three passengers was involved in a collision where the driver lost control and struck a brick wall. During the collision one passenger was ejected from the vehicle and landing on the collapsed brick wall where he was found deceased.
Evidence at the scene indicated the deceased was not the driver; however, both surviving occupants of the vehicle stated the deceased was the operator at the time of the collision. There were no witnesses to the actual collision. Both subjects continued to maintain the deceased was the driver of the vehicle.
On February 26, 2013 new information came to light in this case prompting further interviews of both occupants of the vehicle.
During an interview of Mr. Jose Ramirez, 25 yoa, admitted to having been the operator of the vehicle when the collision occurred. He also stated that he and Mr. Jose Marquez, 26 yoa, had consciously made the decision to continue the false statement placing the deceased, Mr. Rudy Natal, 21 yoa, behind the wheel of the vehicle when the collision occurred. An interview of Mr. Marquez and a third person confirmed Mr. Ramirez’s statements.
Mr. Ramirez was arrested and booked for Second degree Murder, Endangerment, and Tampering with a Witness. Mr. Marquez was arrested and booked for Second degree Murder (criminal liability) and Hindering an Investigation.
