Location of Incident: Avenue B and 4th Place, Yuma, AZ
On 03-16-2013 at approximately 2240 hours, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a brown Jeep Grand Cherokee on Avenue B at 8th Street. The vehicle was being driven by Enrique Rivera (31 years of age of Yuma, AZ). The vehicle came to a stop on Avenue B near 4th Place. As the deputy was approaching the vehicle, a female occupant in the vehicle was heard screaming for help. Rivera then fled from the scene of the traffic stop with the female occupant still inside the vehicle.
Rivera refused to stop for the pursuing law enforcement vehicles and got into a collision at the intersection of Avenue B and 24th Street. Rivera and the female occupant (28 years of age of Yuma, AZ) were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. Both Rivera and the female occupant were treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. Rivera was placed under arrest upon his release from the hospital and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on the charges of Kidnapping, Endangerment, and Unlawful Flight.
The Yuma Police Department is investigating the collision and alcohol does appear to be a contributing factor.
