Location of Incident: Highway 95 at approximately Avenue 4 ½ E., Yuma, AZ
On Friday, April 12, 2013, at 0940 hrs, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle injury collision at Highway 95 and Avenue 4 ½ E.
The vehicles involved were a white 2003 Buick Park Avenue which was westbound on Highway 95 and a grey 2007 Ford F-250 which was also westbound on Highway 95. The initial investigation revealed that the Buick crossed over both westbound lanes of Highway 95 in an attempt to make a left turn. The driver of the Ford was unable to slow his vehicle to avoid colliding with the Buick. The front end of the Ford collided with both driver side doors of the Buick. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound traffic lanes of Highway 95.
The Buick was being operated by Ms. Betty Stenlund, a 73 year old female from Colorado. She was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural Metro Ambulance for serious injuries.
The Ford was being operated by Mr. James Howard, a 42 year old male from Yuma, Arizona. Mr. Howard was not injured during the collision.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
