Attempted Homicide

Location of Incident: 8200 Block of South Coconino Lane - Yuma, AZ


UPDATE:
The investigation of the attempted homicide on July 29, 2013 has revealed that a verbal argument occurred at a residence in the 8100 block of South Mojave Lane. The argument turned into a physical altercation between the victim and the suspect resulting in the suspect being knocked to the ground. Witnesses report that the suspect then stood up holding a handgun and began shooting the victim. The suspect is wanted for attempted homicide and is considered armed and dangerous.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:
On July 29, 2013, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Deputy on pro-active patrol heard multiple gunshots in the Donovan Estates area. While the deputy was attempting to locate the source of the gunshots, the Sheriff’s Office received reports that a shooting had occurred in the 8200 block of South Coconino Lane.

Upon arrival, deputies located a 37-year old Hispanic male, standing in the street calling for help. Upon making contact with the male subject, deputies discovered that he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural Metro ambulance with non life threatening injuries.

Investigators received information that the victim had been at a friend’s house where a fight took place leading up to the shooting. The suspect remains outstanding.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau is currently investigating the incident. Anyone with any information concerning this investigation is asked to contact Detective Ashby at the Yuma Sheriff’s Office at (928) 783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
