Theft Suspect

 

Location of Incident: Desert Area North of I-8 and Avenue 25E - Wellton, AZ


On August 6, 2013, at approximately 7:28 a.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of male subject that had been electrocuted. During the investigation deputies learned that the male suspect was attempting to steal copper wire off of a wooden utility power pole, which was stapled to the pole and attached to a static line for grounding purposes. As the suspect pulled the copper wire off of the pole, it brushed up against the live power lines, delivering a 69,000 volt shock into the suspect’s body. The suspect survived the shock and was air lifted to the Maricopa County Burn Center in Phoenix. Suspect is listed in critical condition.

Suspect: Joshua Hess, 34 year old male of Wellton

The suspect is currently being investigated on numerous other scrap metal theft cases.
