On Sunday, February 23, 2014, at approximately 8:09 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of County 19th Street and Avenue D in reference to a report of a single vehicle rollover involving injuries.
The investigation at the scene revealed that a white 2009 Chevrolet pickup was traveling eastbound on a dirt access road in the desert area south of County 19th Street when the vehicle struck a utility pole and then overturned. The driver of the vehicle was Ruben Jacuinde, 24 years of age, of Somerton, AZ. There were also two passengers in the vehicle, Alexis Duran, 18 years of age, and Fernando Guerrero, 18 years of age, both of Somerton, AZ.
One of the passengers, Alexis Duran, was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Ruben Jacuinde and Fernando Guerrero were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Somerton/Cocopah Ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. They were both treated and released. Next of Kin notification has been made.
Alcohol does appear to be a contributing factor.
