On May 14, 2014, at approximately 6:05 a.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle injury collision on Highway 95 and Avenue 3E.
The investigation at the scene revealed that a 2013 white Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was eastbound on Highway 95 and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of Highway 95 and Avenue 3E. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Mr. Laurence Thomas Madewell, 59 years of age, from Las Cruces, New Mexico. The passenger in the Dodge was identified as Mr. Lawrence Alvarez, 51 years of age, from Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mr. Madewell was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural Metro Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries; the passenger refused medical attention on scene.
The second vehicle was a Yuma County Sheriff’s Office unmarked white 2010 Chevrolet Suburban assigned to the Medical Examiners Division which was traveling southbound on Avenue 3E. As it entered the intersection, it struck the Dodge truck. The driver of the Suburban was identified as Deputy James Holland. No passengers were in the vehicle. Deputy Holland was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural Metro Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
Mr. Madewell was cited and released for failure to stop for a red light and failure to control.
