Warrants Department

The Warrants Department receives processes, maintains and validates warrants issued by the Yuma County Justice, Juvenile, and Superior Courts. The criminal misdemeanor warrants that are managed by the Warrants Department are bench warrants and cases initiated by the Sheriff’s Office. The Warrants Department also manages all criminal felony warrants for Yuma County issued by the Yuma County Justice and Superior Courts. This department also cancels warrants upon receipt of a court order as well as validates arrest warrants to ensure the warrants are still active or current.

In addition to receiving, processing, maintaining, validating, and canceling warrants, the Warrants Department does extensive research utilizing multiple computer system applications to obtain additional information on a wanted subject. This process provides access to fingerprints and/or photographs associated with an arrest warrant, and assists law enforcement agencies in confirming a person's identification when making contact with a wanted subject. Warrants Department personnel work closely with other agencies to assist in the apprehension of wanted persons in Yuma County and other jurisdictions. NOTE: The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office does not provide warrant information by telephone to the public.

The Warrants Department also ensures the extradition of Yuma County wanted persons apprehended in other jurisdictions under the authority of arrest warrants, waivers or governor’s warrants. This department maintains contact with other state and county agencies in which Yuma County wanted persons are held to obtain custody status pending availability for extradition. Extradition of wanted persons from another state is determined by the Yuma County Attorney’s Office.

Additionally, the Warrants Department follows through with notifications involving the arrest of offenders in custody at the Yuma County Adult Detention Center wanted by other jurisdictions. This department maintains contact with other state and county agencies to ensure the return of their wanted persons after due process. NOTE: The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office does not provide extradition information to the public.
