Each inmate booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on state and local charges must be transported to local courts for arraignments and trials. During 2024, the External Inmate Transport team effected a total of 10,711 inmate transports to local courts, DOC transfers, medical appointments and other appointments as directed by the courts.
In addition, the Outer Inmate Transport team also made a total of 426 transports to Arizona Department of Corrections and picked up 37 inmates on Writs from Arizona Department of Corrections or Federal Correctional Institutes within Arizona. Also, they picked up 83 inmates from other counties on outstanding Yuma County warrants and courtesy transported 28 inmates for other Arizona counties on out of county warrants.
Inmates arrested in other states on outstanding warrants issued out of Yuma County must be transported and returned to Arizona. In 2024, the Outer Inmate Transport team transported 64 inmates from other states to Yuma.
