Dates of Service
August 2014–December 2015

K-9 Flora is a female German Shepherd and was born July 20, 2013 in the Netherlands.

Flora and her handler, Deputy Bradley Kopp, attended the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) K-9 Academy at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas on August 4, 2014. The CBP K-9 Program—considered to be the most challenging canine certification course in the nation—consisted of multiple real world scenarios that a narcotics detection team may encounter in the field of law enforcement. On September 20, 2014, Flora and Deputy Kopp successfully completed the 280-hour course, receiving their Border Patrol Certification.

Flora and Deputy Kopp maintained their narcotics detection certification by attending 16 hours of maintenance training per month conducted by Yuma Sector Border Patrol K-9 instructors.

Deputy Kopp and Flora were assigned to the Yuma County Detention Center. Their mission was to deter and detect the presence of narcotics in the Detention Center, which included Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Cocaine and Heroin. Deputy Kopp and Flora also assisted the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau when called upon for K-9 support.
